There’s been talk about Apple changing the phone connector to USB-C (or another variant) over their proprietary Lightning cable. While I don’t think this will happen, here’s why it’s a bad idea. 

When you look at the physical female USB-C connection (and micro-USB), you will see a pin at the center that inserts into the male end. This floating pin can easily get broken and render the connection unusable. 

From a technical standpoint, the lightening connection is less susceptible to damage. The reason for this is the connection is simple pin and socket compared to the USB-C and microUSB sockets.
